Innovation at Dr. Reddy’s encompasses our NCE Research focus,
Biologics business and
Specialty Pharmaceuticals in the US, as well as our efforts in Differentiated Product Development.
The idea of Drug Discovery Research at Dr. Reddy’s was conceived by Dr. Anji Reddy in 1990, even while the GATT negotiations were in progress, and much before India signed the agreement in April 1994 and became a member of the WTO. This idea came to fruition with the establishment of Dr. Reddy’s Research Foundation, now called Discovery Research (DR). Its mission is to create world-class capabilities for the discovery and development of new therapies based on scientific excellence, innovation and integrity. DR’s institutional capabilities span a wide range of areas across medicinal chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmacology, genomics, proteomics, molecular biology, microbiology, toxicology, formulation and clinical development.
The over a hundred-strong Biologics team is currently dedicated to the development of Biosimilars, while its long term vision is to also develop NBEs (New Biological Entities) in niche therapeutic areas. Having successfully launched GrafeelTM (Filgrastim) and RedituxTM (Rituximab) - the World’s first biosimilar MAb (Monoclonal Antibody) - our Biologics division has a strong pipeline of biosimilars that consists of 9 additional products in various stages of development. The team, with our dedicated state-of-the-art biologics facility in India, is well equipped to handle the end-to-end development of these new products.
Our Specialty pharmaceuticals business is focused on the US markets. Dr. Reddy’s is currently developing topical products for various indications that will be detailed directly to dermatologists and other physician audiences.
Our Differentiated Product Development has scientists and medical professionals working in close collaboration to address unmet medical needs in a variety of therapeutic areas using novel drug delivery systems, novel formulation strategies or drug combinations, while our DR focuses on discovery and early clinical studies of newly synthesized compounds for the treatment of metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disorders and cancer.
