betapharm was formed in 1993 by Thomas and Andreas Strüngmann, the former owners of Hexal, and accordingly was run as part of the Hexal group. In March 2004 the 3i Group, a leading Private Equity and Venture Capital Firm acquired betapharm. Under the new ownership, the management team had undertaken a number of key initiatives that have further strengthened betapharm’s position within the marketplace. The Company today is viewed as a leader within the German generics sector with a strong reputation, differentiated brand, broad product portfolio and pipeline as well as an experienced high-quality management team. In February 2006, Dr. Reddy’s successfully completed the acquisition of betapharm Group.
