Syntex, prior to its takeover by Roche in 1994 was a major pharmaceutical company that has to its credit, the pioneering work on the development of the oral contraceptive pill and discovery of Naproxen. It had amongst its leadership team, Dr. George Rosencratz, a distinguished scientist who also received the highest honor Mexico bestows in the health field: The Eduardo Liceaga Medal.

Description of the facility
The Cuernavaca facility is USFDA inspected and consists of seven manufacturing bays. The facility is well maintained with good systems and processes, which have been developed by Roche over the last decade. Apart from manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients ‘naproxen & naproxen sodium’ and a range of intermediates for Roche products, this facility has pioneered the synthesis of steroids for use in pharmaceutical and veterinary industries. The key customers include Roche and other innovator companies based in North America and Europe.
