1986 sees the company going public with listing in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories offers 7,50,000 equity shares of Rs. 10 each for cash at par linked to 1,50,000, 15% secured redeemable non convertible debentures of Rs 100 each for cash at par. Issue opens for Non Resident Indians on May 24th 1986 and for the Indian Public on 5th June 1986.

Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Private Limited commences the commercial production of its first API, Methyldopa, a hypertension drug which was unavailable in India, in 1985. It is supplied to Merck, Sharp, Dhome (MSD), manufacturers of Aldomet and exported to West Germany, Yugoslavia, Bangladesh, Kenya and Canada.
The pioneering effort of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd, and its remarkable export performance is acknowledged when the executive Committee of Indian Chemical Manufacturers Association confers the “ICMA Award for Export of Chemical Products” for 1986.
