When we were naming our company, MP Chary who became the MD of my company said, “Sir, why do you go on registering other names when you already have a name (Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories)? We’ll change it to Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited and make it a Limited company.” That was how the name was changed.

Dr. Anji Reddy establishes Dr. Reddy's Laboratories with an initial capital outlay of Rs.25 lakhs

Founder Chairman Dr. K Anji Reddy establishes Dr. Reddy's Laboratories with an initial capital outlay of Rs.25 lakhs. The certificate of incorporation is issued on 24th February 1984 and on the same day the first meeting of the board of directors of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories private limited is held at its registered office at 6-3-347/6 Dwarakapuri Colony, Punjagutta, Hyderabad-500004. It is attended by Dr. K. Anji Reddy and Mrs. K. Samarajyam.

Mr. MP Chari, who is the General Manager of Production at Standard Organics Limited, becomes the first Managing Director of Dr. Reddy’s laboratories. The same year, Dr. Anji Reddy and Murali K. Divi (Currently Chairman of Divis Laboratories) take over Cheminor Drugs and Murali Divi becomes the Managing Director of the company.

The construction of the first API manufacturing facility at Bollaram, Hyderabad starts on 1st May 1984 and is successfully commissioned in June 1985.
